Solea Laser Experience ·

The Solea all-tissue dental laser by convergent dental is an advanced CO₂ laser system that allows for precise, comfortable, anesthesia-free dental treatments. Unlike traditional dentistry, which often require drills, needles, and anesthesia numbness, Solea offers a high-tech, pain-free, minimally invasive alternative that is simultaneously efficient and gentle. FDA-approved for both hard tissue and soft tissue procedures, Solea’s transformative approach addresses a multitude of dental needs, making it one of the most versatile and innovative tools in modern dentistry.

Solea: A One-of-a kind Dental Laser:

What makes Solea so special is its versatility and comfort levels. While other dental laser units treat either hard tissues or soft tissues, Solea’s unique wavelength interacts seamlessly with enamel, dentin, bone and soft tissue, delivering outstanding results without noise, discomfort, or bleeding. Solea is the only 9.3 micron CO2 Laser available on the market. Its mirror system, optimized by Galvos, computer-controlled systems, multiple spot sizes and variable-speed foot pedal allow for different functions depending on the tissues being treated.

How Can Solea Deliver Anesthesia-free Dentistry:

Solea pulses at an astounding rate of 1,000 pulses per second. The gate control theory of pain asserts that non-painful input can close nerve “gates” to painful input, which prevents the sensation of pain from reaching the central nervous system. As Solea vaporizes tissues, it overwhelms pain receptors, preventing pain signals from ever reaching the brain. The result is an analgesic effect that allows dental work to be completed without shots, numbness, or pain.

Why We Love Solea

We feel that Solea is like the magic wand of dentistry! We love it because it helps us do what we do best: provide gentle, high-quality, leading-edge care for child and teen clients. Our families love Solea because it prioritizes comfort and offers exceptional dental experiences. Solea dental laser has simply transformed how we practice dentistry making procedures faster, more comfortable, and more precise.

Benefits Of The Solea Dental Laser:

No Needles or Numbing in Most Cases: Over 90% of Solea procedures are performed without the need for local anesthesia. This means no shots, no lingering numbness, and a quicker return to normal activities.

Pain-Free Experience: Thanks to its unique laser technology, children report little to no discomfort during their treatment.

Faster Procedures: Solea works quickly and efficiently, reducing overall chair time.

Minimal Bleeding: The laser’s precision and ability to cauterize tissue as it cuts result in minimal bleeding during soft tissue procedures.

No Noise or Vibration: Traditional dental drills produce unpleasant noise and vibrations, Solea is quiet and vibration-free.

Faster Healing: With less trauma to the surrounding tissue, recovery time is significantly reduced and healing is accelerated.

Perfect for Kids: The quiet, gentle nature of the Solea laser makes it ideal for toddler/child/teen patients.

How We Use Solea for pediatric and teenage dentistry:

1
Prevention:
Solea possess healing properties that benefits soft and hard tissues. Solea can heal superficial caries and enamel defects by acting on the hydroxyapatite structure which is enhanced when exposed to Solea. Solea also has a photobiomodulation effect on the dental pulp increasing blood supply and healing capacity.

2
Precision Sealants:
Sealants are protective coatings placed in the deep grooves of molars to protect these areas from dental decay. These grooves are tiny bottlenecks that trap food debris and bacteria and are impossible to clean. A sealant seals these grooves and creates a smooth surface that is easy to clean and is impermeable to oral bacteria. Removal of biofilm prior to placing a sealant is important for its success. Solea is the most powerful tool in cleansing tooth structures and eliminating biofilm enhancing the success and duration of dental sealants.

3
Cavity Treatment:
Solea gently and effectively removes tooth decay without the need for drills or needles. Its precision ensures that only the decayed portion of the tooth is removed, preserving more natural tooth structure. Solea provides faster dental treatments and a virtually pain-free experience that helps children (and parents) feel more at ease. It the perfect solution for both pediatric dentistry and teen dentistry.

4
Soft Tissue Procedures:
Solea makes soft tissue treatments like gingivectomies and laser periodontal therapy more comfortable and more efficient than ever. With minimal bleeding, faster healing, and quicker recovery times plus little to no discomfort. Solea also offers soothing results for lip and cheek irritations, sores and aphthous ulcers.

5
Endodontic Procedures:
With it’s healing effect, Solea helps calm irritated tooth pulps and improve the success rates of indirect pulp therapy procedures in both the primary and the permanent dentition. It also allows for disinfection of the pulp chamber/canals if pulpotomies or pulpectomies are needed.

6
Esthetic and Cosmetic Dentistry:
Esthetic teen gingival (gum) re-contouring, pigment removal and labial frenulectomies are easily completed with Solea. Precision enamelplasty and tooth surface cosmetic enhancements offer stunning, natural-looking results.

7
Sleep Apnea & Snoring Relief:
Solea can be used for soft palate tightening procedures, offering a non-invasive option for mild sleep apnea or chronic snoring.

8
Oral surgery:
Solea laser for oral surgery uses include laser-assisted tooth extractions, orthodontic crown exposures, Solea offers clean, bloodless surgical site with enhanced healing capabilities.

FAQs for Solea Laser Experience:

What does a session with Solea entail?

We tell kids and teenagers that our Solea Laser experience is like going to the dental spa! A beam of sunshine paired with a water bath will clean and revitalize their teeth and mouth. They also get to wear “sunglasses”! This analogy is well-received and helps kids associate the session with something familiar and comfortable. Parents are welcome to sit in on the Solea experience and will also be provided with protective eyeglasses.

How does bypassing local anesthesia happen?

We gently walk kids and teens on what to expect during the Solea experience before the visit. Solea has a water mist that helps with cooling. We explain to our clients that they will be feeling vibrations and a cooling sensation on their tooth. During the initial introduction of Solea, we guide our children and teens through these sensations and ask them to report any excessive sensitivity by raising their hand. Mode, speed and technique are carefully calibrated until complete comfort is achieved. In the rare instance where someone remains sensitive to the care, we can introduce a slight amount of local anesthetic using our computerized delivery system, the STA. However, the majority of treatments are completed completely pain-free and anesthesia-free.

Does my child need sedation during Solea care?

This will depend on the treatment needs. In general, we encourage parents to consider the comforts of our sedation suite. Because Solea is such a gentle instrument, nitrous oxide and oxygen inhalation sedation offers a perfect pairing to achieve a super comfortable experience.

How is Solea delivered to the site of treatment?

Solea’s handpiece has a small tip where the laser beam appears. The small beam can be adjusted in size depending on the treatment area and the specific desired outcome. Solea’s beam precision is a dentist’s dream come true!

🦷👍 Can children’s thumb-sucking actually change the shape of their facial bones?

Prolonged sucking pressure can reshape the palate and push the upper jaw forward. But this doesn’t happen in every child that has a sucking habit. It’s like going to the gym. Some people get more out of their workouts than others. Stopping the habit can be challenging so a gentle approach is best. Talk to us about how we can support this process so that you and your child are confident, happy and sucking habit-free. 😊🌸🪥✨

Every child responds differently to habits like thumb-sucking. Factors such as intensity, frequency, and duration all influence how teeth and jaws develop over time. With the right guidance and supportive strategies, children can transition away from the habit in a positive and encouraging way. 🌱💛

Your child’s first teeth actually begin forming before birth 👶🦷
Long before a baby’s first tooth appears, tooth development is already underway. During pregnancy, tiny structures called tooth buds begin forming inside the gums.
These early buds slowly develop into enamel and dentin layers that will eventually become baby teeth ✨.
Because tooth development begins so early, maternal nutrition plays an important role in supporting strong tooth formation. Minerals such as calcium and phosphorus help strengthen early enamel development 🥛.
When that first baby tooth appears months later, it has already been forming quietly beneath the gums 🌱.
At Smiles Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics, helping families understand early dental development supports lifelong oral health 💫.

🦷✨ Did you know a dentist made surgery painless for the entire world?

In 1844, dentist Horace Wells changed history when he used nitrous oxide to remove a tooth without pain. That single moment transformed medicine inspiring doctors everywhere to use anesthesia for surgery. Every time you sit in the dental chair and feel the gentle calm, you’re experiencing the comfort dentistry gave to all of modern medicine. One brave dentist made healing humane and loving 💫🩺🦷

This breakthrough reshaped how patients experience care. What once involved fear and discomfort became something calm, controlled, and compassionate. Today, that same foundation allows children and families to feel safe, supported, and at ease during dental visits. 😊🌿

Did you know plaque begins forming on teeth just hours after brushing? 🦷✨
Even after a great brushing routine, bacteria begin attaching to tooth surfaces again surprisingly quickly. Within only a few hours, a thin film called plaque starts forming across teeth.
Plaque contains bacteria that feed on sugars from food and drinks 🍭. As those bacteria break down sugars, they release acids that slowly weaken tooth enamel. Over time, repeated acid exposure can lead to cavities.
Brushing twice daily removes plaque before it has time to cause damage. Flossing also plays an important role because it removes plaque between teeth where toothbrush bristles cannot reach 🪥.
At Smiles Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics, prevention and education are key parts of helping children maintain strong healthy smiles 🌟.
What surprised you most about plaque forming so quickly? Share your thoughts or questions in the comments below! 💬

✨🦷 Our Founder, Dr. Reem Kabbarah, Shares a Teen Smile Transformation Designed with Care

In today’s evolving world of teen-friendly dentistry, creating a beautiful smile no longer means removing healthy tooth structure. In this blog, our founder Dr. Reem Kabbarah shares how no-prep 3D printed resin veneers offer a conservative and thoughtful way to enhance a teen’s smile while preserving natural teeth. 💫

Mariana has been part of the Smiles Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics family since she was a baby. Over time, she shared a simple wish — fuller teeth and a brighter smile. As her smile developed and orthodontic treatment improved alignment, the opportunity came to revisit her goals in a personalized and meaningful way. 🌸😊

With a biology-first approach, careful evaluation of gum architecture and digital smile design allowed for precise planning before treatment began. Through a collaborative process, Mariana was able to preview her future smile and choose what felt most natural to her. ✨🦷

Using no-prep 3D printed resin veneers, her smile was enhanced without removing natural tooth structure. The result feels soft, balanced, and completely her own — a confident smile that preserves long-term dental health. 💛🌿

🦷🧵 The first dental floss was real silk — fit for elite smiles.

Dentist Levi Spear Parmly The Father of Preventive Dentistry introduced silk thread floss in 1815 to clean tight spaces between teeth. By the 1940s, nylon replaced silk, making floss durable and affordable. That tiny thread still protects forty percent of every tooth surface a brush cannot reach. ✨🪥🦷

Flossing plays an essential role in keeping smiles healthy. Even the best toothbrush cannot clean every surface of the teeth, especially the narrow areas between them where plaque often gathers. Using floss each day helps remove food particles and bacteria from those hidden spaces while supporting healthier gums and stronger enamel. 😊🌿

💬 Do your kids floss daily or are you working on building that habit at home? Share your tips for making flossing fun for children below!

🦷🦠 Kids can pass cavity-causing bacteria just by sharing a spoon or straw!

The cavity-forming bacterium Streptococcus mutans spreads through saliva. When children share utensils, cups, pacifiers, or straws, microbes can easily move from one mouth to another. 🔬🥄 Even though these moments seem harmless, bacteria can settle on teeth and begin the process that leads to cavities.

Encouraging children not to share eating tools helps reduce the spread of decay-causing bacteria. Simple habits like using their own utensils, cups, and straws help protect enamel and support healthier smiles as kids grow. 🪥✨ Teaching these small daily practices early helps keep smiles strong and protected from unseen invaders. 😊

💬 Did you know cavity-causing bacteria can spread this way? What healthy habits do you teach your kids to protect their smiles? Share below! 👇

🦷🍃 Did you know there’s a gum that can actually help teeth?

Not all gum is created equal. Sugar-free gums made with xylitol or calcium phosphate do more than freshen breath — they help enamel heal by reducing the presence of cavity-causing bacteria. These special gums boost saliva flow, neutralize acids, and help make minerals that rebuild weak spots be bioavailable. Chewing these gums after meals for 5 minutes is a great way to benefit. ✨🪥💧🦷

Saliva plays an important role in protecting teeth. Increased saliva flow helps wash away food particles while supporting a healthier balance in the mouth. For many children and adults, chewing sugar-free gum after meals can be a helpful addition to daily oral care habits when brushing right away is not possible. 🌱😊

💬 Have you or your child tried xylitol gum before? Do you keep sugar-free gum handy after meals? Share your thoughts below!
